02 How does attendance tracking work?
Employees check in and out from the web each day. The system records timestamps, detects late arrivals based on your configured office hours and grace period, and calculates worked hours and overtime automatically.
Employees on approved leave, holidays, or weekends are detected automatically — no check-in required. Managers see a real-time daily view of who's checked in, who's on leave, and who hasn't checked in yet.
03 What happens when an employee forgets to check in?
Employees who haven't checked in are flagged on the daily attendance view as 'Not Checked In'. At the end of the day, the absence detection system marks them as absent automatically.
Managers can resolve the absence as LWOP (full or half day), excused, or apply retroactive leave. Employees can also submit a retroactive check-in request for manager approval.
04 Is this shift rostering or workforce management?
No. Leave Balance tracks one check-in and one check-out per employee per day. It answers the question: 'Was this person here today, when did they arrive, when did they leave?'
If you need multi-shift rostering, break tracking, or complex scheduling across locations, a dedicated workforce management tool like Tanda or Deputy is a better fit. If you need straightforward daily attendance alongside leave management, Leave Balance covers both at $10/month.
05 Is geolocation tracking always on?
No. Geolocation is fully optional and off by default. An account administrator must explicitly enable it. When enabled, location data is captured only at the moment of check-in or check-out — there is no continuous tracking.
Geolocation is useful for verifying on-site attendance for field or multi-location teams. It can be disabled at any time.
06 Can managers only see their own team's attendance?
Yes. Managers and approvers see attendance data scoped to their direct reports. Only administrators have access to the full company view. This keeps data visible to the people who need it without over-exposing sensitive information.
07 Does attendance integrate with leave management?
Fully. Employees on approved leave appear as 'On Leave' automatically. Half-day leave is supported — employees check in for the other half. Holidays and weekends are detected based on each employee's location settings.
Absence resolution can create linked leave requests (e.g., resolving an absence as LWOP automatically creates the corresponding leave record for balance tracking).
08 Can I export attendance data for payroll?
Yes. Monthly attendance data can be exported as CSV from the staff attendance view. The export includes check-in/out times, worked hours, overtime hours, and absence records — ready to import into your payroll system.
