Slack and Microsoft Teams integrations are often grouped together in feature tables, but they may be at very different release stages. One can be generally available while the other is a private pilot, and their supported commands can differ.
Use a channel-by-channel comparison
For each product, record separate answers for Slack and Teams:
- Is the integration live, privately distributed, or invite-only?
- How is it installed?
- Can employees check balances?
- Does a request happen in chat or open the web app?
- Can managers approve in chat?
- Which notifications and summaries are supported?
- Does it work in private and shared channels?
- Has the exact workflow been tested on mobile?
Avoid a single “yes” cell for integrations. It hides the difference between a webhook, notification app, command bot, interactive workflow, and embedded tab.
Keep the leave platform authoritative
Chat tools should make approved actions easier to reach while the leave system owns policies, balances, requests, decisions, and audit history. Check that a failed or repeated chat activity cannot create a duplicate request or expose another company’s data.
Validate security and administration
Ask how the vendor authenticates Slack requests and Microsoft activities, links users to employees, scopes administrator consent, stores credentials, handles token expiry, and removes access after uninstall. Confirm the permissions with your Slack or Microsoft administrator before rollout.
Compare the product beyond chat
Integration depth matters, but so do policy rules, reporting, exports, audit history, accessibility, support, pricing, and a good web experience. People should still be able to complete their work if chat is unavailable or their role is better served by the main application.
Leave Balance channel status
Leave Balance’s Slack integration is live. Microsoft Teams support is currently a limited, invite-only pilot with no public Teams Store install or general-availability date. Candidate Teams workflows are confirmed during onboarding; leave requests and approvals continue in the Leave Balance web app.
Leave Balance costs USD $10 per month or AUD $29 per month at current public pricing. Buying a subscription does not automatically enable or guarantee eligibility for the Teams pilot.
