02 How does attendance tracking help with Working Time Regulations compliance?
The 2019 CJEU ruling established that employers must maintain a system for recording daily working time. Leave Balance's attendance module provides a systematic record of check-in and check-out times for every employee.
Overtime is tracked automatically with configurable weekly caps, helping you monitor compliance with the 48-hour average weekly limit under the Working Time Regulations 1998.
03 What happens when an employee forgets to check in?
Employees who have not checked in are flagged on the daily attendance view as 'Not Checked In'. At the end of the day, the absence detection system marks them as absent.
Managers can resolve unaccounted absences as LWOP (full or half day), excused, or apply a retroactive leave request. Employees can also submit a retroactive check-in request for manager approval.
04 Is the geolocation feature GDPR compliant?
The geolocation feature is fully optional and off by default. It must be explicitly enabled by an account administrator. When enabled, location data is captured only at the moment of check-in or check-out - there is no continuous tracking.
All location data is stored securely and encrypted. You maintain full control over whether to use this feature.
05 Can managers see attendance for just their team, not the whole company?
Yes. Managers and approvers see attendance data scoped to their direct reports only. Only administrators have access to the full company attendance view.
06 Does attendance tracking work alongside leave management?
Attendance and leave are fully integrated. Employees on approved leave are automatically shown as 'On Leave' in the attendance view - no check-in required. Holidays and weekends are detected automatically.
Half-day leave is supported too. If an employee is on half-day leave, they can check in for the other half of the day.
