For a team, multiply headcount by the working days in the period, then divide total team absence by that figure.
A support team has 8 full-time people. In the quarter there are 63 scheduled working days per person after public holidays. Across the quarter the team loses 21 days to sickness.

Headcount-based denominators break as soon as your workforce is mixed. Someone working three days a week cannot lose five days in a week, but a headcount formula assumes they can.
You have two clean fixes:
- Switch to hours. Divide hours absent by hours scheduled. This is the most accurate method and the one to use if your rota varies.
